Glorieta Adventure Camps is a beloved part of the Santa Fe mountain bike community and the Santa Fe Fat Tire Society is grateful for the amazing trail network that Glorieta allows riders to access. Not only is Glorieta welcoming to mountain bikers from all over, but they continue to expand mountain bike access for all skill levels, including adaptive cyclists.
Thanks in part to a grant from the New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division, Glorieta has built several new trails in the last year, including Blue Corn, Black Chili and Cavatappi. Cavatappi was built by the experts at Jagged Axe, who did an excellent job with grade reversals to build a fun and sustainable trail.
Glorieta Adventure Camps also used these funds to build a new trailhead parking lot and are in the process of installing shade structures and a bike wash station. It’ll be the place to be this summer! Look for the Santa Fe Fat Tire Society tent out there a few weekends this summer handing out free beverages and spreading the stoke.
One of the many great features of the Glorieta Adventure Camps network is that there are several bike-specific, directional trails, which the Santa Fe Fat Tire Society believes is an essential strategy to reducing user conflict and giving mountain bikers the best possible experience.
The Camps have also excelled as land managers, working hard over the last several years to thin the forest around campus in a way that keeps people safe and improves the health of the forest.
The Santa Fe Fat Tire Society has a great relationship with Glorieta Adventure Camps, working together to ensure mountain bikers are having a blast and doing so in a safe and respectful manner. Our organizations collaborate on events, trail maintenance and stewardship. Last Fall, we purchased a weather station that Glorieta installed to allow riders to view site specific weather conditions like 24 hour rainfall, to avoid riding muddy trails. We look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together in the years ahead.
All us mountain bikers are incredibly fortunate to have a place like Glorieta Adventure Camps to ride and we’re thankful for their continued support in making Santa Fe such a great place to ride. Stayed tuned to the Santa Fe Fat Tire Society ride calendar as our weekly rotating rides will be at the camps throughout the summer. Happy trails!
