6 Hours in the Basin race
Thanks to everyone who came out for the 2025 6 Hours in the Basin race on May 4th. This was the 7th annual running of the event and the first one hosted by the Santa Fe Fat Tire Society. Despite an iffy forecast, racers were treated to balmy, fast riding conditions until a deluge in the last 15 minutes of the race that made for a blustery, wet, and entertaining awards ceremony. With 140 riders from across the region lining up, the race brought in $7,500 for the Commonweal Conservancy, the non-profit that builds and oversees the 45 miles of trail at the Galisteo Basin Preserve.
Special thanks to our primary, local bike shop sponsors that provided cash donations and gear for the post-race raffle: High Desert Bicycles, The Broken Spoke, Two Wheel Drive, Sincere Cycles, and Bikeworks.
We’re also grateful to Fat Tire Cycles, Racing Apparel, BTI, Running Hub, F1 Cyclery, Rally Vans, Sport Systems, REI, The Miller Gym, and Santa Fe Brewing Co. for their swag contributions. Please support these local businesses and let them know that you appreciate their support of the 6 Hours in the Basin Race.
Finally, the race couldn’t have happened without all the volunteers that donated their time. Special shout-out to David Halliburton for making the chip timing work so seamlessly and to Tom, Keaton, Henry, and Logan for cleaning the course in the rain and coming back soaked, cold and covered in pink ribbons and mud.
