We’ll head for a little more shade this week and ride Glorieta Camps. 
Glorieta Camps has a large and expanding trail system with lots of different routes and options, so there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy. We’ll break into multiple groups depending on what everyone wants to do.

We are partnering again with our friends at the Northern New Mexico Horsemen’s Association for a day of fun with horses and bikes!

Horseback riders and mountain bicyclists share our beautiful New Mexico trail systems. Have you ever met up with horses on the trails? Were you unsure how to safely proceed? Let’s talk about how we can do so – you will learn how a horse might think about a bike on a trail, how to approach horses and riders, and what are the roles and responsibilities of both types of riders. The objective is to have a hands on and safe learning experience. Bring your bike and be ready to learn! There will be snacks and drinks provided by SFFTS.

The Horsemen’s Association riders will make a donation to SFFTS as a thank you for our bike rider’s participation and providing bikes to desensitize and familiarize the horses.

Club Ride, Wednesday 8/13: Arroyo Hondo Trails – Meet at FR79 Lower Parking Area


This week we will ride some of our great National Forest trails in the Arroyo Hondo Trails system (https://www.trailforks.com/region/arroyo–hondo-usfs).
There are a lot of great ride options for all ride levels. If you have not been here before, this will be a good way to sample some of the trails with people who know their way around. If you have been here before, you know how good the ride options are.

Meet at the FR79 Lower Parking Area at 5:45; wheels in the dirt by 6:00.


Park at the Forest Road 79 Lower Parking area (location here). A few hundred yards after you take the left fork in the road and cross the 3rd cattle guard and are on USFS land.
The third cattle guard is 1.3 miles after you hit dirt, and the meeting/parking location is 1.5 miles after you start onto the dirt road. The road gets wider and there is space to park on both sides of the road.
Leave plenty of time to get there. It takes about 40 minutes to drive to the meeting spot from the Siler Area. Remember to drive courteously through the Cañada de los Alamos community.

Club Ride (and Mellow Option), Wednesday 09/10: Borrego/ Bear Wallow – Borrego Trailhead

We’ll head up the mountain this week and ride the Borrego/ Bear Wallow Triangle for the Mellow Option. It’s about a 4.5mile loop, with a few technical sections. We’ll keep the pace conversational and it’s a really fun ride. 

For those that want a little extra, there is an option to add some climbing up the Winsor as either an out and back, or a lollipop if you want to go that far.

Club Ride (and Mellow Option), Wednesday 08/06: Glorieta Camps -New Glorieta Adventure Camps Public Parking Area
We’ll check out the new parking area at Glorieta Camps. Glorieta is expanding the facilities it offers in this great ride center. To get to the new parking area, turn left onto Oak Road after crossing the overpass (NM 50 goes to the right). The parking area will be the first available right.
Glorieta Camps has a large and expanding trail system with lots of different routes and options, so there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy. We’ll break into multiple groups depending on what everyone wants to do.

The evenings are getting shorter, so bring a light in case the sun goes down before we make it back to the trailhead.

GBP Trailwork Saturday September 27, to work on repairing damage from heavy rain and flash flooding at GBP a couple weeks ago. We’ll meet at the Morning Star Trailhead at 9am and begin construction of a 4/10 mile long reroute to move the trail away from dangerous arroyo headcuts. Tools will be provided, as well as Blake’s breakfast burritos, and we’ll be hiking to the work area. Bring gloves, hat, water, snacks, sunscreen. Sturdy shoes, long pants and shirts recommended. We should be back at the trailhead between noon and 1pm.

We are going to venture north this week to explore some of our wonderful BLM Trails at the Nambe Badlands. Be sure to bring plenty of water, as there isn’t a lot of cover and it can get hot in this harsh landscape. Come out and enjoy these beautiful Public Lands that we are fortunate to have access to!

GBP Trailwork Sunday, October 19th to work on repairing damage from heavy rain and flash flooding at GBP a couple months ago. We’ll meet at the Morning Star Trailhead at 9am and begin construction of a 1/4 mile long reroute to move Kate’s Koan out of an arroyo and onto stable ground and build 40′ of boardwalk over a mud prone section of the recently built Emma Pearl’s Way reroute. Tools will be provided, as well as Blake’s breakfast burritos, and we’ll be hiking 3/4 mile to the work area. Bring gloves, hat, water, snacks, and sunscreen. Sturdy shoes, long pants and long sleeved shirts recommended. We should be back at the trailhead around 12-1, weather permitting. Atalaya Flyers, Monday 10/27: La Tierra Trails – Frijoles Trailhead (Final Ride and Pizza Party!)

This week is our end of year Costume Ride and Pizza party. Come dressed up and enjoy trick or treating on the trails, followed by pizza at the trailhead after the ride.


This is our weekly Kids’ and Family Ride that happens each Monday evening. We will split into skill levels as needed, and all rides are no drop rides.
The evenings have been getting cooler, so layers/ a light jacket will help keep the little ones comfortable. And remember that we have less light, so be sure to arrive on time so we can get rolling and not be out past sunset.
