The winter 2011 Rails to Trails Conservancy magazine features an article on the Santa Fe Rail Trail.
"Straying from the Santa Fe Rail Trail with my bicycle at my side, I stood in the middle of the railroad tracks, high on an 1880s wooden trestle. Just minutes ago, I'd been riding a newly paved section of this rail-with-trail inside the city limits of Santa Fe, N.M., passing the bright murals and colorful graffiti that are part of the city's vibrant artistic heritage. Now I marveled at the simple beauty of the high desert landscape laid out before me..."

Please join the Trails Alliance in another morning of trail maintenance and dead tree removal on Sunday, Nov. 7th from 9 to noon. You'll work on the NW side of the Dale Ball where many decaying trees have blown down in our recent wind storms. You'll also do some tread repair and basic maintenance.
Meet in the Dale Ball parking lot at 9. Please wear a Mt. bike T-Shirt or jersey, long pants and hiking shoes. Bring water and gloves (or use some of theirs).
Volunteer trail work is a very important aspect of the Santa Fe Fat Tire Society. Without our local trails we couldn't be mountain bikers. Watch our Events Calendar for upcoming trail building and maintenance events.
After you've done the trail work, please click here to Report your Volunteer Hours. Thanks to the Trails Alliance of Santa Fe for their assistance in tracking trail-work volunteer hours.
Dale Ball Trail Tune-up: Sunday, October 24th, 9am to noon. Meet in the parking lot at Sierra del Norte and Hyde Park Rd. We will move dead trees, do some basic trail maintenance and have a good time. Wear long pants and hiking boots, bring gloves if you have them (or borrow ours). Tools provided.
