Santa Fe National Forest - Closures

Extreme Fire Danger

The Santa Fe National Forest will be closed starting at 8 a.m. on Monday, June 24, 2013, and shall remain in effect until December 31, 2013, or until rescinded, whichever event occurs first. This closure includes, but is not limited to, the following trails: Winsor, Borrego, Bear Wallow, Chamisa, Rio en Medio, Tesuque Creek, Juan, Saddleback (Sidewinder) Atalaya and St. John's. The attached map depicts both Stage II fire restrictions and areas of closure.

There are two exceptions to this closure:
  • National Forest System Lands 100-feet from both sides of the Rio Chama Scenic River starting at the north end of the river at the Coyote and Cuba Ranger District Boundary downstream to the southeastern boundary near Forest Service Road 151.
  • Valles Caldera Valle Grande Staging Area.

State Hwy. 475 (Hyde Park Rd.) will remain open, but the trailheads will be cordoned off and signed with the closure order. Plus, the toilets will be locked along Hyde Park Rd.

Open Trails:
  • Currently the Dale Ball Trails and La Tierra trails, which are primarily on Santa Fe city lands, remain open.
  • If you are looking for recreation in the region, the Carson National Forest is still in Stage I fire restrictions, except for the closed Pecos Wilderness.

In the meantime - Think Rain!
